Darius Rucker was the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish; the band’s mainstream pop variation of blues-rock brought the band to the top of the charts in 1995. Their first album, “Cracked Rear View,” released in the fall of 1994 and the single, “Hold My Hand,” worked its way into the Top 10. Its success propelled the album to No. 1, as well as launching a second hit, “Let Her Cry,” which was followed by “Only Wanna Be With You.” The album became a massive success by the fall of ’95, going platinum several times over with 13 million copies.
