LOS ANGELES — Oscar voters will have an extra day to cast their ballots.
The motion picture academy says it's extending the deadline for members to vote for the Academy Awards to Jan. 4, following criticism of its new electronic voting system.
The nominations are set to be announced Jan. 10.
Ric Roberton, chief operating officer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said the extension will make the transition to online balloting as smooth as possible.
The academy partnered with electronic voting firm Everyone Counts Inc. earlier this year to develop the first Oscars online voting system.
Voting in the past has been compiled strictly through paper ballots. The new system allowed members to vote either online or through the mail.
The 85th annual Academy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 24.
Happy New Year! Have you made your resolutions for 2013? Here are mine:
1. Learn the names of the people two doors down from me and invite them over for dinner.
2. Learn how to make dinner.
3. Buy a gun. Stroke it. Squeeze it. Hold it. Love it. Shoot it! Ahhhh... Buy more guns... Stroke them...
4. Stop saying, "I support the troops." I don't. I used to. I understand why so many enlisted after 9/11. Sadly, many of them were then trapped and sent off to invade Iraq. I felt for all of them. I understood those who joined because of a lousy economy. But at some point all individuals must answer for their actions, and now that we know our military leaders do things that have nothing to do with defending our lives, why would anyone sign up for this rogue organization?
5. Apologize for No. 4. I have enormous respect for anyone who would offer to sacrifice their life to defend my right to live. Is there any greater gift one can give another? It's not the troops' fault they're sent to invade other countries for dubious reasons and outright lies. It's OUR responsibility to prevent this, to elect representatives who believe in peace, and to only put our troops in harm's way when it's absolutely necessary. My uncle was killed in World War II. Today would have been his 90th birthday. My dad still misses him. Our family has served this country in the military since the Revolutionary War. None of them watch Fox News.
6. Drink more water.
7. Wear color.
8. Find the best person who can run for and win the governor's chair here in Michigan in 2014. Work every day to win back the Michigan House and Senate from its Republican majority.
9. Read more fiction. Support my local indie bookstore. Help people create Little Free Libraries and put one up in front of our theater in Traverse City. Don't use glowing screens to read books. Write the next one.
10. Keep walking, dude!
That's my list. Send me yours via Twitter and Facebook. Click here to join me on the walks. Let's be kind to each other in the coming year. And let's encourage Obama to ACT, to make history, and to be remembered as one of our greatest presidents.
Here's hoping for a peaceful 2013.
This year, a slew of hot stars posed (and stripped) for PETA in the name of animal rights.
Elisabetta Canalis, Evelyn Lozada, Olivia Munn, Wendy Williams and others dared to bare it all for PETA's "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign.
SCROLL FOR PHOTOS (WARNING: SOME IMAGES ARE NSFW)
"I decided to go nude because I think that nudity always creates a big reaction," Canalis, Italian superstar and ex-girlfriend of actor George Clooney, explained to PETA. "That is what is required to keep people's attention on such a brutal practice... These poor animals are electrocuted, skinned alive, drowned, and bludgeoned just for the sake of fashion."
Talk show queen Wendy Williams stripped naked in support of her anti-fur stance. "PETA has proven that there is a sexy way to suggest to people to rethink the fur," she told PETA. "And I like it and I'm down." Adding, "We should all try to be comfortable in our own skin and let animals keep theirs."
Model and actress Olivia Munn's naked PETA ad was so sexy that it had to be censored in California. Only a partial nude photo of Munn appeared on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Basketball Wives" star and former fur-wearer Evelyn Lozada hopes her PETA ad makes a difference. "Hopefully, if I could change someone's mind by not wearing fur, then I've saved an animal," she said.
Check out some of the hottest robed and disrobed stars who posed for PETA in 2012.
We bet you've got fun New Year's Eve plans tonight. But what would happen if you invited Miley Cyrus to join, and she showed up wearing a crazy leather-studded ensemble, ready to break out into "Rebel Yell" for you and your friends? And maybe Bieber would also join, shirtless, so he could regale you all with the tale of his latest tattoo? Then, Selena would show up (with her bestie, Taylor) and break out into a coordinated dance routine to "I Knew You Were Trouble"...
That would be the best. New Year's Eve. Ever.
Because we love (extreme) wishful thinking, we've compiled the top 10 young celebrities we'd most like to party with tonight, from Miles to one of the boys from One Direction. Do you agree with our picks? Share your own #wishfulNYEdates in the comments below or tweet @huffpostteen!
Newlywed Jenelle Evans is reportedly on the road to divorce -- just 26 days after tying the knot.
According to TODAY, the 20-year-old reality TV star is leaving her husband Courtland Rogers in the wake of a heated argument that erupted over the holiday season.
Celebrity website OnTheRedCarpet.com reports that the couple began "ranting about one another on Twitter" over the weekend, after Rogers spoke on the phone with his daughter, Jordan "JaJa" Lewis. The little girl is the child of Rogers and his ex-girlfriend Taylor Lewis.
At 2.50 a.m. on Dec. 30, Rogers tweeted:
So I just got broke up with because of talkin to my lil girl on the phone last night finally getting to here her tell me she loves dada! Wow— Courtland Rogers (@courtyb11) December 30, 2012
TODAY reports that Evans became enraged after the conversation, believing that Rogers was "more interested" in chatting with his ex-girlfriend than with his daughter. Less than two hours after Rogers' tweet, Evans declared:
IM SINGLE @courtyb11— jenelle evans (@PBandJenelley_1) December 30, 2012
As website The Stir notes, Evans' jealousy may not be the only reason why the couple is calling it quits.
The website reports that Evans has previously accused her husband of throwing her suitcase down the stairs and hiding "serious financial issues" from her.
I need my best friend right now I can't stop crying @vkillemm— jenelle evans (@PBandJenelley_1) December 30, 2012
Though Evans and Rogers have vowed that this is the end of the road for their relationship, TODAY speculates that this is "one on-and-off relationship that's bound to be back on again soon."
What do you think? Will Evans and Rogers reconcile or are they done for good? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
