Mixmaster Dan Morrell

Music
Simply put Dan spins the music that your girlfriend wants to hear. On the radio or in the clubs, he won’t be pigeon holed into one genre of music because that leads to limiting creativity. However, you are most likely to hear The Mixmaster mixing a blend of hip hop, house, rock / mashups when you hear him behind the tables. Dan’s ecletic taste in music has served as the inspiration behind Mixmastered Records, a record label focused on putting out the best in party music across all genres.
Connections
Seven year veteran Mixshow DJ at B96 (WBBM-FM), Chicago’s Most Listened to Radio Station. Chicago Bears’ exclusive DJ for their Official Tailgate Parties and Draft-Day Parties, to name a few. Chicago Bulls’ choice for pre-game warm-up mixes and Luv-a-Bulls cheer mixes. Together with business partner Erik White, Dan also heads up Chicago’s Most Successful Nightclub Marketing/Promotions company Mixmaster Throwdown.
Credentials
First place winner at the Super DJ Spin-off at the RA Nightclub, housed in Las Vegas Luxor Casino in August of 2001. Has since opened for such acts as Kanye West, Diddy, T-Pain, Akon, Gym Class Heroes, Hillary Duff, Rhianna, Mims, Paula Deanda, Shakira, Run DMC, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Sean Paul, LL Cool J, and Missy Misdemeanor Elliott, among other of today’s hot acts.
Musical Influences
As a Mixer, Producer, and Musician, his wide-ranging lists of musical influences range from DJs: Clinton Sparks, Bad Boy Bill, DJ AM; Producers: Timbaland, Pharrell, Soundmaster T; and Artists: Ludacris, Jay-Z, Fall Out Boy, Metallica, Motley Crue, Lenny Kravitz, Creed, John Mayer, & Jimi Hendrix.
Controversy
Served a cease and desist order in 2003 barring him from using his long-time professional name of DJ Smurf. (Dan Morrell is now going by his given name and takes the legal action in stride and as a testament that his work and popularity are finding its way back to Peyo, the German based company that owns the rights to The Smurfs cartoon.)
Trivia
You can often find Dan in the studio working on music production and playing guitar… or out mixing at the best parties around the country, investing in real estate, and enjoying a work-out.
